QUESTION: Is it important to use the music every time I nurse or if I use it just a few times a day, will it be OK?

    DR. DAVID SAYS:

The music can be used every time you nurse but it’s not required. The music has a wonderful quality of connecting you into the right space with your baby. Technically, it is called entrainment, where the energy of one person hooks into and resonates with the energy of the other (in this case your baby). The baby recognizes the sound of the music as a time of connection.  You both experience the positive feelings and experiences that happen as you nurse her, feel each other and talk.

For you, the power of good habits can be an important anchor for your daily regimen. It is so easy to fall into patterns that work against the results you want. If you establish a pattern that employs the music as a nursing aide, it will help your baby, as well as help you to keep your focus. The most important thing is to relax and connect with yourself AND your baby. Worrying doesn’t help you or your newborn.
